Blogging Skills I Want To Improve On In 2018

Blogging Skills I Want To Improve On In 2018

The other day, I was reading  Sophie’s blog post all about the blogging skills she wants to improve on this year and thought it was such a good idea and actually found that most of the points she mentioned are fairly similar to the things I’m setting myself to improve on this year when it comes to blogging too. Although I started my blog at the start of 2016, there are still skills I would love to be able to learn more about and get better at doing. It got me thinking about which blogging skills I want to improve on in the coming months and thought I would share them with you!

1. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Now listen, this is something that is definitely at the top of my list to master, or hopefully understand a bit more. I do use the Yoast SEO plugin and try my best at it but my knowledge of SEO is quite basic. If you’re unaware of what exactly it is, it’s essentially trying to maximise the amount of clicks to your site through search engines through a variety of methods. Some of these include, including key phrases, internal links, adding focus key words and adding a meta description.

The better your SEO, the higher the chances your site will gain organic traffic. If you are totally lost and have no clue what the heck I’m on about, same gurl. I like to think I know what I’m doing, removing stop words from my slug but in reality, I’m probably doing it all wrong and would just love to know a bit more about it!

2. Photography

Around Christmas time, I really tried to ‘up’ my photography game and created some of my favourite posts around Christmas on my blog. Since then, I have been really trying to experiment with my photos, have a bit more fun with my camera and actually take some different shots compared to before when I was just taking product shots (which I also still LOVE doing too.) Although I have the occasional attempt at a flatlay, I would love to know more about composition and try to improve on my flatlay skills and try something new. I also really enjoy taking photos of places as well as product photography which is something that leads me onto the next point. I’m hoping to take my camera out with me to places more, even if that’s going to a coffee shop or on days out.

3. Making My Blog More Personal

Although I’m still not brave enough to totally come from behind the camera to in front of the camera, I’d love to work on making my blog more personal and to show you a bit more of an insight into my life so you can generally get to know a bit more about me as well as knowing what mascara I’m currently loving (which I hope you love too!)

4. Collaboration & Networking

I got a few amazing opportunities last year to work with some wonderful brands which was an absolute dream for me. I still can’t quite believe it when an opportunity drops in my inbox, I am forever grateful! Having said that, I definitely need to start collaborating more as part of my blog life. Whether that be working with brands or other bloggers as it’s something I love doing and is my favourite aspect of blogging to interact with you absolute babes! I have set myself a goal to follow a lot more new blogs this year as well as continuing to follow and support the ones I followed back in 2016. Please leave your favourite blogs down below that you think I’ll love to follow!

I know there are probably SO many more blogging skills I could or should be improving on, but these are the four main areas that I’m looking to work on. Hopefully now google will be my bestie and teach me exactly how I can do these things! I’m not promising anything though so don’t hold me to it and think my photos are going to drastically improve! I’m still working on it ok. If any of you do have any tips though, please feel free to let me know as I’m always open for any advice or tips! Or if you just want a general chat, I’m always open for a good gossip.

Hope you all had a lovely Mother’s Day!
