Benefit Gimme Brow Vs Rimmel Brow This Way!?

img_0195

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and have had a lovely weekend! A few days ago I was having a browse in Boots aka my second home and came across the Rimmel Brow This Way Eyebrow Gel and thought I’d add it to my basket and give it a try as my beloved Benefit Gimmie Brow is sadly running out! After now having tried both the brow gels, I thought it would be interesting to compare the two and share with you my opinions on them! I hope you enjoy my lovelies…

First Impressions & Packaging:

Rimmel Brow This Way Eyebrow Gel-

I am aware that the Rimmel Brow Gel has been on the market for quite some time now and I have no idea why I had never tried it before! I think they improved the formula by adding argon oil recently which was another reason I was excited to try it out. The Rimmel brow gel comes in 3 different shades (Blonde, Mid Brown and Dark Brown) plus a clear one that all retail at £3.99. I have mine in the shade ‘Mid Brown’.

As soon as I opened the brow gel I was a bit worried that the shade wouldn’t match my brows as it seemed like a warm light brown but thankfully it is actually a more darker brown on your brows. Although the two brow gels are pretty similar shades with the Rimmel one being slightly darker, I prefer the shade of the Benefit Gimmie Brow as it gives a more natural look but the Rimmel one still matches my brows it just doesn’t look as natural. Benefit offer cooler, more ashy tones which is what a lot of people are looking for when it comes to brows and the Rimmel ones are slightly warmer.img_0197img_0196

The packaging is quite plain and simple and reminds me a bit of a mini mascara but I don’t mind the packaging and I like how the colour of the packaging is the same as the shade so it is clear what shade it is if that makes sense! Although it does look like a product from the drugstore and I must admit there is a clear difference compared to the Rimmel and Benefit brow gels packaging wise, it’s the product inside that I’m interested in!

Benefit Gimme Brow –

The Benefit Gimme Brow is retailed at £18.50-£20.00 and as you can tell, there is a clear difference in price compared to the Rimmel brow gel. As soon as Benefit released their new brow range I instantly fell in love with it especially the gorgeous packaging of the products. For the difference in pricing, the Benefit brow gel does have a lot nicer packaging and is overall a higher end product which I love but you pay for what you get and although the Benefit packaging is a lot nicer, you can save a lot of money getting the Rimmel one with not as nice packaging!

Brushes:

Rimmel Brow This Way Eyebrow Gel-

Although the two brow gels are similar in size with the Rimmel one containing 5ml and the Benefit one containing 3ml, the actual brushes definitely aren’t the same size. As you can see, the Rimmel version has a lot larger brush which means it is harder to apply and be as accurate with it. When using the brow gel, I sometimes get a bit of gel on my skin or in areas where I don’t want it to due to the wand being larger and carrying more product than you need so I tend to scrape a bit off before applying it to my brows. If you have thinner brows you might find the brush a bit of a struggle to use but for me personally I found that if I used the tip for the thinner areas of my brows it was manageable and does the job.

Benefit Gimme Brow –

The brush that comes with the Benefit brow gel has a smaller brush that is nice and easy to use that is perfect for brushing through your brows. I must admit, I definitely prefer the brush in this brow gel as you can be more precise and you are less likely to get any product on your skin or in areas that you don’t want the product to be applied. The brush applies the right amount of product onto your brows which makes them more natural looking which I love.

img_0230img_0229Formula:

Rimmel Brow This Way Eyebrow Gel-

I was intrigued to see what the formula of the Rimmel brow gel would be like and if it was similar to the Benefit Gimme Brow considering that they are similar products but one being drugstore and one being high-end. I have noticed that the formula of the Rimmel one is quite wet and takes a bit longer to dry than the Benefit one but that could be due to the fact that there is more product on the brush. I was quite impressed however at the pigmentation and how long the Rimmel brow gel lasts on my brows as it doesn’t budge all day and keeps my brows in place which is definitely a bonus! The brow gel also makes my brows look fuller and fills in any sparse areas which is similar to what the Benefit brow gel claims to do.

Benefit Gimme Brow –

I don’t think I really need to go into the formula of the Benefit brow gel because it is pretty much the perfect formula that dries nice and quickly and again keeps your brows in place all day. I would say though that the formula does get drier after you continue to use it which means it dries out quicker but the brow gel has lasted me about 2 months which is quite a decent amount of time considering I used it everyday.

Overall Comparison:

Overall the two brow gels are very similar products for very different prices that I both would definitely recommend. Although I would choose the Benefit Gimme Brow over the Rimmel Brow This Way eyebrow gel, the Benefit version is a lot more expensive and until my bank can afford spending £20 on a brow gel rather than spending £3.99 on a brow gel, I think the Rimmel one is a great, cheaper alternative. Although there are things I don’t like about it, it’s not going to be as good a brow gel for the price but for a drugstore product it’s pretty damn good that I will definitely be repurchasing!! img_0233img_0236

That brings me to the end of this weeks post! Thank you so much for reading as always and I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know if you have tried any of the brow gels as I’d love to know your thoughts on them!?

Much Love, Amelia xx

Great post! Just curious, for the adelle theme, how did you get rid of those polka dots at the top?

    • March 4, 2017 / 2:13 pm

Aw thankyou lovely! I added a marble background so if you add a plain white background or whatever background you want they should disappear 💗💗

      • March 4, 2017 / 3:00 pm

You’re welcome! I’m not sure if it’s my computer or something, but when I customize the Adelle theme, when I click on Colors & Backgrounds, when I choose a color, it still appears behind the dots, but the dots are still there. I don’t see an option to put a picture (like your marble) in the background.
